Appeal after two assaults in Stroud

Police are appealing for witnesses to two assaults that happened close to each other in Stroud on Tuesday.

The first happened at about 12.40pm near to the entrance of the Halfords carpark on the A46, Merrywalks, Stroud.

Enquiries show that a yellow Mini stopped at the side of the road before the passenger got out and attacked a male on the pavement. He was joined by the driver of the car and both continued the assault before returning to the Mini.

There are likely to be several witnesses to the assault as a car was forced to stop as the incident spilled into the road, before the victim was able to run away.

Detectives want to hear from those witnesses who haven’t yet come forward and would be grateful to receive any appropriate dash cam footage of the assault or the yellow Mini.

The victim is described as being a white male, tall, with brown hair and wearing a grey top.

Anyone who can help should call 101 and quote incident 230 of 26 June.

The second incident involved police who were responding to the initial assault. Two officers were injured in Parliament Street as they tried to catch the occupants of the yellow Mini.

One of the officers was taken to hospital to be assessed but has since been discharged

A 15-year-old male youth was arrested in connection with the assault in the initial incident and a 17-year-old male youth was arrested in connection with the assault on a police officer.

Both remain in custody at this time.
