Calling all young musicians! Come and take part in the BBC Ten Pieces!

The BBC is coming to Gloucestershire to inspire young musicians.

The BBC Ten Pieces is a national project to promote classical music to young people. Ten Pieces aims to open up the world of classical music to people across the UK and inspire them to develop their own creative responses to music.

Gloucestershire Music (local authority music service) is helping to celebrate this venture with the BBC Ten Pieces Day on Saturday 4th November. If you sing or play an instrument there is sure to be an event for you!

Our very own Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra (GYO) is holding an open session for advanced youth players as they work on Stravinsky’s mighty Firebird Suite. This event is a chance for people to learn together with GYO members, and visit professional players and students from the Birmingham Conservatoire.

This opportunity is perfect for all brass, wind, string and percussion players’ grade 6+. The session will run from 2pm – 7pm at Sir Thomas Rich’s School. Fees will cost £30 (payable on the day).

Cllr Richard Boyles, cabinet member for children and young people at Gloucestershire County Council said: “This is an excellent opportunity for new and experienced players to be part of this incredible musical project, whilst also improving their own skills and making new friends.

“Ten Pieces is a wonderful introduction to music for lots of children and adults. Everyone loves music so let’s celebrate it together.”
