Dementia Friendly Community Enablers set to support the community

Five new Dementia Friendly Community Enablers are set to start work on behalf of the Council to raise awareness of dementia across the district.

A Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) grant has meant that the Council has been able to employ the Dementia Community Enablers for a year as outreach workers, to build on and extend the dementia friendly work in the local community.

The new team members will be responsible for raising awareness of dementia amongst residents and working with other members of the Forest of Dean Dementia Action Alliance they will recruit a network of community links which will contribute to the Forest of Dean becoming a more dementia friendly place.

Andy Morgan-Watts, a Dementia Champion for the Forest of Dean said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Catherine Harris, Sarah Davies, Nina Summerfield, Roger Pickett and Ruth Ward to the team.  With their help we can now further expand our support network in every parish through delivering awareness sessions.”

“In partnership we will continue to raise awareness of dementia and provide personalised support to some of the most vulnerable people in our community who may be currently struggling to manage.

Dementia Friendly Community Enabler, Sarah Davies added: “I’m so excited to have the opportunity to get involved with the community and help those whose lives are affected by dementia.  Dementia is a subject close to my heart and I am looking forward to enabling local communities to become dementia friendly.”
