Driving forward – commuters and residents asked to give their feedback

Local people and organisations around Tewkesbury are being invited to events happening in Tewkesbury to give their feedback and experience on the A46, M5 junction 9 and other nearby roads and the local traffic issues.

These events will be used to put forward feedback to Highways England and Gloucestershire County Council as part of a wider review process between both parties to try and identify a solution to the constraints on the network.

Businesses are invited to Moog on Friday 24th February between 2pm – 4pm, whilst local people will be able to attend the Boys Brigade on Saturday 4th March, 10am – 1pm, to give their feedback.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flooding at Gloucestershire County Council, and chairman of the M5/A46 partnership said: “I am absolutely dedicated to working with Highways England, businesses and local people to find a way to ease congestion problems that currently affect so many of us.

This survey is a great opportunity for you to give honest feedback. Whether you are a regular commuter or use the roads occasionally, tell us what you see and think as your insight is invaluable at looking at potential solutions.”

Laurence Robertson, MP for Tewkesbury, said: “The problems of congestion on the A46 are already well known and, unfortunately, have been experienced by too many people. Things can only get worse as more development takes place along that road area. We therefore need to find solutions to the problems which exist at the moment, and make sure any necessary infrastructure is considered before there’s more development in the area.”

Serena Howell, asset manager at Highways England, said: “We are aware of the constraints on the network at this location. A joint study is currently being undertaken by Highways England and Gloucestershire County Council to explore possible ways to alleviate congestion on this stretch of road along the A46 corridor, A438 and at M5 junction 9. Once this has been completed we will review the information and consider the next steps.”
