Murder Inquiry – Police appeal for video footage

Officers involved in a murder investigation are appealing for anyone with video footage of an altercation in lower High Street to contact police.

Christopher “CJ” Hall, 28 and from Cheltenham, was taken to Southmead Hospital after being assaulted at around 10pm in lower High Street. He suffered serious injuries and died the following evening.

Detective Inspector Neil Rice, of the regional Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), said: “This was a violent assault which has resulted in the death of a young man.

“We believe that prior to the attack there was an altercation in lower High Street and we are urging anyone who may have captured this on their phone to contact police.

“The area was busy at the time with a number of people in the area and we would ask for anyone who has not already spoken to police to call 101.”

A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Cheltenham, and a 31-year-old man of no fixed abode, remain in custody at this time after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 27-year-old woman from Cheltenham has been released on police bail.

A cordon will remain in place at the scene while police enquiries continue.

Anyone with video footage of the assault should call police on 101 and quote incident 554 of 7 July.
