Newent Town AFC facing expulsion from league

Newent Town Football Club are appealing for support from other local clubs or they could face immediate exclusion from the league.

The Glos Northern Senior League are bringing a motion forward on Friday 13th Oct.

This motion is to ‘Exclude’ Newent Town from the Northern Senior League.

Although there is no actual rule breach, Newent are being accused of not playing their strongest team in Northern Senior League.

Since joining the Hellenic League system this season, Newent have run with (in effect) 2 Senior teams and a 3rd team in the North Glos League.

The motion will be voted on by the 32 clubs by a ballot (actually 31 because Newent are not allowed a vote) and if 2/3rds vote them out, then they will be excluded.

If Newent get the support of 12 or more clubs then they can continue in Northern Senior League.

A Newent Town spokesman said: “Some Glos Clubs are supporting Newent Town AFC as they love playing here and they can see what we’ve done to improve the facilities.

However, whatever the rights or wrongs of it. We are fully aware that if we don’t have the support of enough clubs, we will be excluded and it will immediately be the end of the season for the 16 lads.

Then all the clubs that have taken points from us, will lose them and the league will run with 1 team short.

We hope for as many votes as possible, because it’s completely out of our hands”.
