The Overtones gearing up for debut Cheltenham performance

The Overtones say they can’t wait to visit “beautiful Gloucestershire” when they make their debut performance at Cheltenham Racecourse.

The five-piece vocal harmony group will be performing live as part of Dr Dawn Harper’s ‘White Summer Party’ at the racecourse on Saturday, July 1.

In a career spanning seven years, the group have released five albums, with four of them reaching the UK top-10.

Dr Dawn, who is best known to millions for treating conditions on Channel 4’s ‘Embarrassing Bodies’, has invited The Overtones to perform live at her party – which will be raising funds for Action Medical Research.

Lead-vocalist Timmy Matley says the group have an “amazing friendship” with Dr Dawn and are honoured to have been asked to perform at the event.

He said: “Dr Dawn has been to every single one of our tours, she’s a huge fan of our music and it’s so lovely that she’s asked us to perform.

“I’ve heard so many amazing things about the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside. I’m really looking forward to being out there for what is going to be a very special and glamorous day!

“It seems to me this is going be a wonderful night of dancing, letting yourself go and just enjoying the day, so we’ll be performing a really upbeat set and it will be a celebration of the best of what The Overtones can do.”

Best known for their doo-wop harmonies, The Overtones were discovered during their day-jobs as painters and decorators while singing on their tea break.

Lockie Chapman was the final member to join the group, after moving to London from Australia. He says it has been a great journey so far but performing live to fans is still the highlight.

“Performing live is my favourite part of what we do, you can actually see people with smiles on their faces and dancing to the music,” said Lockie.

“It’s bonkers to think we’ve been releasing music for seven years now really, but time flies when you’re having fun and that’s exactly what we do, whether we’re on stage, making an album or just hanging out together we always have fun.

“We’ve performed at racecourses before but never Cheltenham, and definitely not at a White Party at a racecourse. We are planning an extremely stylish look for the performance – we might even go for a Miami Vice look for a change!”

Timmy added: “We’ll be dressed smart, we’ll have our shiny shoes on, our dance moves at the ready and we’re going to bring it for everyone at Cheltenham Racecourse.”

Dr Dawn said she is counting down the days to the event. “I’m a massive fan of The Overtones and I’m thrilled we’ve managed to get them for this fantastic event.

“For anyone who hasn’t seen the Overtones, they put on a phenomenal performance. Cheltenham is in for a real treat. Here’s to raising a really good sum for Action Medical Research, which is a brilliant children’s charity which funds vital medical research.”

Tickets for Dr Dawn’s ‘White Summer Party’ are priced at £135 and includes a champagne reception, three course sit down meal and half a bottle of wine. Go to www.cheltenham.co.uk.
