Puckrup Hall Golf Club tees off new charity partnership

The Captains of Puckrup Hall Golf Club in Tewkesbury have jointly selected Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice as their charity of the year for 2017.

The club teed off its fundraising activities with the Captain’s Drive in at the start of January, which was held at the stunning course on the outskirts of Tewkesbury.

The day raised over £267 for the hospice charity – enough to support one nurse for two days at the hospice.

The Captains took the unusual step to jointly support the same charity after hearing about the benefits of its care for local people.

Phil Schiaffino is Men’s Captain for this year. He said, “Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice has touched so many people throughout the club for many years. We made the decision to jointly support the charity after we spent one Saturday morning with club member and senior nursing assistant at the hospice, Neil Annis and Hospice Director Elise Hoadley. We heard all about what the hospice does. I challenge any man or women to hold back the tears when Elise and Neil explain in their own words what the hospice does, all of which are compassionate, heartfelt and honest.”

Ros Fenney is Ladies’ Captain for the year and she added, “Phil and I spent a morning at the hospice in November, a very emotional and humbling experience and one I will never forget.  The care and support given to patients and their families is very special.”

Elise Hoadley, Hospice Director at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice said, “We offer the only inpatient unit providing specialist hospice care in the whole of the county in addition to our day hospice and hospice at home services. Our team of expert nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, family support workers and volunteers do all they can be there for local families at a time they need it most.”

“As a charity all our services are given free of charge, but we rely on fundraising from the local community for the majority of our income. We’re delighted and truly grateful that Puckrup Hall Golf Club has chosen us as their charity of the year.”

As part of the fundraising effort a charity quiz will be held at Puckrup Hall Golf Club on February 28th & March 28th at the golf bar. For more information on the Puckrup Hall Golf Club visit www.puckruphallgolfclub.co.uk
