Spectacle of Light returns to Sudeley Castle

The Spectacle of Light will return for a second season of sparkle at Sudeley Castle, with a new illuminated trail and a friendly roar in the tower dungeon.

Meteors, Moroccan lanterns and majestic trees will create a kaleidoscope of colour alongside the castle’s romantic ruins, water features and grounds, all lit under the stars.

A striking parasol display, an enchanted tree energising its sparkling roots and the sounds of a mystery mythical creature are among the new additions for 2017, while inspiring music accompanies each discovery of this magical, family-friendly environment.

The dazzling displays take place on selected nights between December 8 – 30, with specific entry time slots from 5pm – 7:30pm each evening and free parking in the castle’s new all-weather car park.

Mulled wine, cider and hot drinks are available, as well as hot savoury treats along the way and scrumptiously sweet delights on the castle terrace.

Event producer Nic Beeby, who lives in Cheltenham, said: “Creating our second Spectacle of Light – which will appeal to all ages and is different to our first – has been joyous and exciting, and seeing it come to life at such a beautiful setting will be amazing for all involved.

“Our ‘Son et Lumière’-style is more of a festive winter event than Christmas-themed. It proved immensely popular last year and we can promise a few surprises to make this Spectacle even more spectacular!”

Lady Ashcombe added: “We used to be closed in the winter, but the Spectacle of Light saw 12,000 visitors enjoy Sudeley last December, in a way it has never been seen before. We had to stage it again.”
