Urgent repairs for A435

Landslip site on Cirencester Road at Charlton Hill has made the road unsafe due to the cracking and in need of urgent repairs.

The busy commuter route is a vital transport link between Cheltenham, Seven Springs and beyond to the A417.

To allow crews to make the essential repairs and limit the amount of disruption, the work will be carried out on the weekend and overnight under an emergency closure.

Work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th March, 7pm to 7am each night, with a full closure and diversions in place. The works will finish on 29th March at 7am.

Traffic will be diverted by the A436, A417 Shurdington Road and A46 while the work takes place.

Crews will lay 210 tonnes of asphalt and cover an area of 780m2 of carriageway during the repair works.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “This work is urgently required and so we’ve put in an emergency closure to get the repairs done as quickly as possible.

“By doing it overnight we’ll minimise the disruption.”
