Woman dragged from vehicle in possible car-jacking attempt in Nailsworth

Witnesses are being sought to a possible car theft attempt in Nailsworth, in which a woman was dragged out of her vehicle at temporary traffic lights by another motorist.

She was driving along the Horsley Road towards Wotton-under-Edge in her black Mercedes Coupe at about 5pm on Monday (26 June) when she stopped at the lights.

A silver-coloured VW Passat with rust on the bonnet pulled up close to her, and the driver got out and approached her.

He leaned in through her open window and tried to grab the car keys. She fought back and during the scuffle, the man dragged her out of the vehicle.

The key broke in two and the offender made off with his half attached to the key ring, when he was spooked by other drivers.

Fortunately, the victim – though shaken – was unhurt and her car wasn’t damaged.

The suspect is described as white, skinny, about 5ft 6ins tall with long, messy brown dreadlock hair. He was wearing dirty jeans and a hoodie.

The victim says nothing was said during the incident to explain his actions, and she cannot think why it happened other than he might have been trying to steal her car.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 410 of 26/6/17.
