A436 re-opens between Severn Springs and Kilkenny after lorry fire

*Update The road was re-opened on Saturday at 3pm.

A lorry fire has closed the A436  between the A435 Cirencester Road and A40 Kilkenny Arms.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 14:41 yesterday after receiving a number of calls to say a lorry carrying hay was well alight.

Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue say four engines remain in attendance with a water carrier.

Crews from Cheltenham East and West stations with a crew from Northleach are the scene.

Two water jets, troche two hosereels and two breathing apparatus are being used to deal with the fire.

Approximately 20 tonnes of hay is well alight.

Due to significant damage to the road surface, link the road is to remain closed for the foreseeable future.
