The “appalling” trail of rubbish from a new popular Gloucester takeaway has been called out by civic chiefs.
US Chicken restaurant chain Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen opened its new restaurant at St Oswalds Retail Park this month.
And the branch appears to be very popular with hungry diners keen to try its signature 12-hour marinated chicken with signature Cajun gravy and fries.
However, customers have left a trail of rubbish along St Oswalds Road including dozens of disposable cups and wrappings with the Popeye branding on it.
Westgate City Councillor Rebecca Trimnell (LD) is calling on the restaurant and its customers to take responsibility and dispose of their rubbish appropriately.
“The new Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is creating a mess along the kerbsides down St Oswalds Road
“I was appalled to walk along St Oswalds Road earlier this week and see 26 individual Popeye disposable cups and wrappings on either side of the road along the kerbside.
“I don’t know whether these have been thrown from cars or clearly dropped by individuals, but surely the restaurant itself has a role to play in keeping the area clean and tidy from their cartons and wrappings?
“This issue needs to be rectified as soon as possible as this level of littering cannot continue. In the meantime, a litter pickup is needed for both sides of the verges to clear the current mess that has been left.
“It’s not a good sight for anyone using this area let alone the fact it will inevitably lead to an increase in rats, which already exist in the overgrown shrubbery under the bridge.”
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has been approached for comment.
