There are calls for safety improvements at a pedestrian crossing in Stonehouse amid concerns parents taking their children to a nearby nursery face near misses.
Motorists have been seen jumping the red light at Bristol Road crossing which leads to Avenue Terrace, says a town councillor who is calling for a plan to solve the problem.
Councillor Simon Macgregor said it is a difficult place to cross due to the limited and lack of a central refuge on that four-lane stretch of the road.
He also said there are visibility issues as heavy goods vehicles often block the lights.
It is understood that Gloucestershire County Council is reviewing proposed improvements for the site.
But Cllr Macgregor says they need to be implemented soon.
He said it has been several months since the town council was told by road safety managers that options were being assessed for the site.
“Now, we have confirmation that a preferred safety option was agreed, and an interim design is under review,” he said.
“While this marks progress, the crossing remains a longstanding concern.
“Families going to the local nursery still face red-light jumping and near misses.
“The layout challenges persist, with no central refuge, limited crossing time, and visibility issues when high sided vehicles block lights.
“We await details of the final plan and how it will address these issues.
“Residents need to see this progress translate into action soon.”
Gloucestershire County Council has been approached for comment.
