The Canal & River Trust is warning people to enjoy canals and rivers safely during the hot weather.
The charity, which cares for 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales, says people should stay out of inland waters such as canals, rivers, reservoirs and docks.
It warns that hidden hazards, unclear depths, strong currents near weirs and structures around locks can create serious risks.
The Trust says 61 per cent of accidental UK drownings in 2024 happened in inland waters.
People are being reminded to keep to the waterside, talk to children and teenagers about water safety, and call 999 if someone is in difficulty.
