Christmas steam train set to support children’s charity

Families all across Gloucestershire are being invited to get into the Christmas spirit on a special Christmas steam train, which is fundraising to support a local children’s charity.

The Christmas steam train sees locals travel with mulled wine and minced pieces, whilst enjoying an open-air carol service with the Cheltenham Silver Band on the platform at Winchcombe Station.

The event is raising vital funds for children’s charity Winston’s Wish – whose headquarters is based in the town centre of Cheltenham.

The charity, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, supports children, young people and their families after the death of a parent or sibling. This is the most fundamental loss a child will ever face, but with the right support at the right time, they can lead full and flourishing lives.

The Toddington Christmas Carols by Steam Train departs from Toddington Railway Station at 6:15pm on Saturday, 9th December, 2017. Tickets are £11.63 and are available from or by contacting the Winston’s Wish fundraising team on 01242 515157 or email

Malaney Varaljay-Boyce, Head of Regional & Events at Winston’s Wish, said: “We’re really excited for this year’s Toddington Christmas Carols by Steam Train – the perfect way to get into Christmas spirits and support our work with bereaved children and their families. We hope to see plenty of people joining in the carols and taking advantage of the mince pie supplies!”

Bernard Dudfield of the Great Western Railway added: “This will be our third year offering the Carols by Steam Train in aid of Winston’s Wish.  We are honoured to support such a worthy and relevant cause and are looking forward to a great ride!”
