Motorists in Gloucestershire are being urged to plan ahead as overnight road closures are set to affect one of the county’s busiest routes.
The A417 will be closed between the A46 Brockworth junction and the Air Balloon roundabout from 9pm to 6am each night between Monday 29 September and Saturday 4 October.
National Highways says the closures will allow survey work, traffic management and utility operations to take place as part of the £460m ‘Missing Link’ project. The scheme will create a new three-mile dual carriageway aimed at easing long-standing congestion between Gloucester, Cirencester and Swindon.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted throughout the closure period.
Celine Acord, Senior Project Manager for the scheme, said safety remained the top priority:
“This is why we’re closing overnight when traffic is at its lowest. We know the work has an impact on communities and drivers, so we do everything we can to minimise disruption. In the long term, the road will be a free-flowing one, without roundabouts, and it will definitely be safer than what we’ve got at the minute.”
The project also includes a new interchange at Shab Hill, which is already under construction.
