A Cheltenham hotel once used to house asylum seekers is set to undergo a major transformation, as new owners prepare to give the site a new lease of life.
The Ramada by Wyndham, on Gloucester Road, is poised to become the new home of one of Cheltenham’s most popular eateries — the Chelsea Brasserie. Businesswoman Sammy Badat has confirmed plans to relocate her restaurant from Montpellier Terrace into the 47-room hotel, with refurbishment work already underway.
Badat, who is in the final stages of purchasing the building from current owner Anoob Saban.
The Chelsea Brasserie, known for its modern British dishes with European flair, first opened in 2013 and moved to Montpellier in 2019. The new site will see the restaurant reopen around late January or early February next year, following a full redesign of the ground-floor dining area.
The Ramada will continue to operate as a franchise until its current lease ends in about 18 months.
The hotel is open to the public and no longer used by the Home Office to house asylum seekers.
