Boat owners are calling for a long-term solution to severe siltation at Gloucester Docks after major disruption to navigation.
The National Association of Boat Owners says the Canal and River Trust should find a long-term solution to the silt problem at Gloucester Docks, rather than relying on repeated dredging.
NABO says around 50,000 cubic metres of silt entered the docks during 2025, around ten times the normal annual amount.
The issue has disrupted navigation and affected businesses and boat operators using the historic port.
The 2027 Gloucester Tall Ships Festival has also been cancelled, despite being planned as part of the docks’ 200th anniversary celebrations.
The Canal and River Trust has reported removing 37,000 tonnes of silt, with more dredging planned.
NABO says the focus now needs to be on reducing the amount of silt entering the system and setting out clear timescales for recovery work.
