Gloucester residents are being asked to have their say on parking restrictions in two parts of the city.
County Highways are reviewing parking in Kingsholm and Wotton along with Elmbridge where concerns have been raised about congestion.
They say they are working to improve the experience of all road users across the county.
And to tackle congestion and create safer streets a variety of schemes have been introduced in different areas, such as lower speed limits, resident parking schemes and traffic calming measures.
They say a resident parking scheme was introduced in July 2023 in Kingsholm to bring multiple benefits to the area such as reducing congestion, making the streets safer for road users and ensuring parking availability for local residents.
Now the County Council is following up the project with a review to measure the success of the scheme and find out if any sections of parking need to be revisited to make minor changes to improve the scheme for residents and businesses.
Councillor Jeremy Hilton (LD, Kingsholm and Wotton) said he has been working with the parking team to start a light touch review on the Kingsholm parking restrictions.
“This includes allocating funds from the Highways Local budget to implement any recommended changes,” he said.
“We have made significant progress in reducing parking congestion in Kingsholm, but there is always room for improvement. It’s crucial that we hear about your daily experiences so that the council can find ways to enhance parking for everyone in the area.”
He also said there are several hotspots in Elmbridge ward where on-street parking congestion is causing problems for local residents.
“I have successfully persuaded the parking team to review these issues, and I strongly encourage residents to write in and respond to the three key questions.
“We have secured funding from the Highways Local budget to cover any necessary new traffic regulation orders.
“I am pleased to support this review, which will lay the groundwork for improving parking for everyone in the community.”
Strategic Highways and Sustainable Transport cabinet Roger Whyborn (LD, Benhall and Up Hatherley) said they want to hear directly from residents in Elmbridge and Kingsholm.
“We’re determined to make improvements and we’re very grateful to you for taking the time to get in touch.
“Your feedback will help shape our plans and benefit the whole community.”
If you live or work in zones H and J of Kingsholm and would like to send the authority feedback, residents can do so by answering what aspects of the parking scheme are working well or not so we, whther it is easier to park and if there is anything residents would like to propose to make it better.
In Elmbridge, the council will consider the options to make parking work better for local residents and businesses.
If you live or work in Elmbridge, the council would like feedback on-street parking.
They want answers to questions such as is there on-street parking congestion outside your house? Do you have problems accessing your driveway? Is there anything you would like to propose to make the parking situation work better for you?
Responses to the Kingsholm consultation should be sent to KingsholmTRO@gloucestershire.gov.uk while Elmbridge feedback should be sent to ElmbridgeTRO@Gloucestershire.gov.uk.
The deadline is the end of September, 2025.
