Have your say on parish and town boundaries

 

Parish and town councils could change their boundaries to better reflect changes in landscape and population – and everyone can have their say.

Stroud District Council has launched a public consultation which offers councils the opportunity to review and make changes to community governance in their areas.

The review will consider a number of issues including whether to:

·       Create a new parish

·       Alter the boundary of an existing parish

·       Group a number of parishes together to form a grouped parish council

This review will look at current parish boundaries and address whether they need to be changed or new ones created, to reflect the changing landscape and population of the Stroud District both now and in the future.

The review is currently in the first stage, which invites people and interested groups to make submissions. Local residents and organisations are encouraged to respond to the consultation and make their views known.

Council Leader Doina Cornell said: “Communities can change over time and it’s important that that is recognised in local government. The council is consulting widely now and will again next year, and this is an opportunity for anyone to have their say.”

All submissions received will be carefully reviewed and draft proposals for any changes will be published for a further period of consultation between February and May 2019. Final recommendations will be approved in July 2019, and will come into effect for the local council elections in May 2020.
