Improvement works to start at Bourton on the Water Leisure Centre

Bourton on the Water Leisure Centre is undergoing some refurbishment throughout August.

The work will include the introduction of new accessible facilities, improved shower facilities, new water play features and upgraded dance studio flooring. During the work there will be some anticipated changes to the services on offer, and Freedom Leisure will communicate with customers throughout the process.

A new ‘Proud to Serve Costa’ corner will be introduced, serving Costa Coffee and snacks, creating a space for socialising, meeting up with friends or recharging after a work-out.

The works are being funded by Cotswold District Council and are based on proposals made by Freedom Leisure when the new Leisure contract was agreed in 2023.

The improvements in more detail include:

  • New pool side water play features for younger swimmers, creating water confidence and providing more fun to centre visits
  • State-of-the-art Kelda showers enhancing the post-work out experience and reducing water consumption by 60% have already been installed as part of the refurbishment
  • New flooring for the dance studio to enhance the aesthetics and improve the workout experience
  • Changing Places accessible changing facilities with room for disabled changing with two assistants, accessible toilet and hoist facilities, changing bench and privacy screen

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure, and Parking, said, “These improvements come hot on the heels of the Cirencester Leisure Centre improvements, which are almost completed.

“The improvements will enhance the user experience for all ages, and with Costa coffee now on offer, a great place to meet with friends as well.

“Improved accessibility ensures an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome and can benefit from adopting or maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”

Lee Thomas, Freedom Leisure Regional Manager, added; “These improvements underpin our firm commitment to Cotswold District Council that we will deliver the best possible service and facilities to the community of Bourton. The works will expand our portfolio of activities to include a much-improved offer for children in the pool, for our group exercise participants and enable those that need more support to access the facility more easily with the addition of the Changing Places.
