The long-vacant site of a former pub in the centre of Gloucester is set for a new lease of life as a well-known food and drink operator prepares to move in.
Loungers, the company behind popular brands Cosy Club, Lounge and Brightside, has confirmed it will take on the former Chambers building in Kings Square. The group, known for its distinctive interiors and relaxed all-day venues, hopes to open in spring or summer 2026.
The new Lounge will occupy around 5,000 sq ft and plans include outdoor seating overlooking the newly regenerated Kings Square and University of Gloucestershire campus. Around 30 to 40 jobs are expected to be created for local people.
Loungers already runs Portivo Lounge at Gloucester Quays, as well as sites in Cheltenham, but this will be its second venue in Gloucester city centre.
Alex Kalebic, Head of Acquisitions for Loungers, said: “We are delighted to be working with Gloucester City Council on this project. We’re looking forward to bringing our family-friendly, all-day offer and to playing our part at the heart of this exciting regeneration scheme.”
The company is now applying for planning permission and a new premises licence.
