Police have arrested a man following a report that a person with a gun had been making threats in Gloucester this morning.
Officers received a call at around 10.15am that a man had entered a shop in Barton Street where he had made a threat with a firearm before making off on a bicycle.
Armed police were deployed to the city centre and shut off Barton Street while a search took place for the suspect.
He was later spotted in Gloucester Park before officers arrested a man in Spa Road on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and robbery. An imitation firearm was later recovered at an address in the city.
Nobody is believed to have been physically injured in the incident.
Inspector Ash Gardner, from Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This was clearly terrifying for those involved.
“We have acted quickly to locate and arrest an individual in connection with this incident.
“Officers will be patrolling the area in order to reassure the public and will be happy to talk to anyone who has any concerns.”
A man in his 30s and from Gloucester remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
