Matson community centre receives volunteering boost

A community centre in Matson has received a welcome boost from staff at a local business who rolled up their sleeves to volunteer their time and help with ongoing improvements at the facility.

Together in Matson, based at The Redwell Centre, provides a welcoming space for a wide range of community services, activities and events including youth clubs, fitness classes and wellbeing support.

The site and sales teams from David Wilson Homes South West’s Winnycroft development took part in a volunteering day to improve the Centre’s outdoor space which had become tired and run-down over time. Joined by their landscaping contractors from Elmtree, who also gave their time and skills to help enhance the garden and crazy-golf course. The day was part of a volunteering initiative by the housebuilder, which is committed to giving back to the communities near where it builds.

Vanessa Worrall at Together in Matson, said: “The outdoor areas are used for everything from Youth Work to Community social gatherings for all ages. They’re so well-used and loved but they’ve started to look a little tired over the years. We’re so grateful to the team of volunteers from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West and Elmtree for offering to treat our outdoor space to some much-needed TLC. Their hard work has already made a big difference and the space feels ready for people to bring their families and enjoy the outdoors. It’s made such a difference.”

The Redwell Youth and Community Centre is a charity that includes a sports hall, sensory room, art studio and many group social spaces. In the garden is a mobile home for support with benefit and housing issues. The Redwell Centre also has @ The Club House which is a unit for community help such as Trussell Trust food bank, A.A groups,  Des the Barber and healthy lifestyle groups.

Adrian Wait, sales manager for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, added: “It’s an honour to support Together at Matson which provides such vital services for local people. I’m proud to see our teams and partners come together to give something back to the local area and we hope members of the community get many hours of enjoyment out of the new and improved outdoor space!”
