Gloucester Folk Museum and Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery are being renamed as part of a new look for the museums.
Museum partners, check staff, capsule councillors and local businesses have been invited to Gloucester City Museum on 21st March to launch the new names and faces of the two museums, rx with the public being invited to view the new look of the museums from Tuesday 22nd March.
Gloucester Folk Museum will be renamed as Gloucester Life Museum, and Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery will be known as The Museum of Gloucester.
Both museums will have a fresh new exterior signage as well as the new names, and Gloucester Life Museum, currently Gloucester Folk Museum, has a brand new 1950s living room and kitchen.
The change came after extensive research was undertaken, which revealed that the current names were not effective and didn’t reflect accurately what the two museums have to offer.
Both museums are a key component of both the visitor economy and a cultural hub for local communities, providing stimulation, education and fun.
To celebrate the new facelift the museums have some extra special events and exhibitions planned for summer 2016, such as the ‘Robot’ exhibition opening at The Museum of Gloucester on 16th July. The exhibition will feature robots, cyborgs and androids from TV and Film Productions, and will include a full size Iron Man, Michael Jackson’s robot head from the ‘Moonwalker’ video, Terminator 2 exhibits, R2D2 and C3P0, amongst many others.
Cllr Lise Noakes, Gloucester City Council cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “We are really pleased with the new names and new look logos for our museums, which we believe are more meaningful and bring their image up to date.
“Gloucester has such a rich history and our museums are well worth a visit – why not pop along during the Easter holidays.”
