Age UK Gloucestershire has launched a new free service to support people across the county who are experiencing memory concerns, undergoing dementia assessments, or have recently received a diagnosis — including young onset dementia.
The Dementia, Diagnosis and Memory Support initiative has been made possible thanks to funding from Barnwood Trust, which supports people with disabilities and mental health conditions across Gloucestershire.
The service offers personalised advice and guidance for people aged 50 and over, as well as their families and carers, helping them understand and manage changes in memory or a dementia diagnosis.
Amy Harris, Joint Project Coordinator at Age UK Gloucestershire, said the project would provide vital reassurance and practical help. “We are incredibly grateful to Barnwood Trust for enabling us to deliver this much-needed service,” she said. “Their support ensures that people facing memory issues or a dementia diagnosis can access timely, personalised guidance and feel empowered to take the next steps with confidence.”

Working closely with Gloucestershire’s network of over 300 voluntary and community organisations, Age UK Gloucestershire’s team can offer advice on staying independent, continuing to work, planning for the future, and accessing specialist support.
The charity will also run an annual Dementia Awareness campaign, helping residents understand how to reduce risks through healthy lifestyle choices and improve understanding of memory-related conditions.
