New heritage loaf launched in Gloucestershire

A new artisan bread celebrating Gloucestershire’s heritage is being launched this week.

The “Gloucester History Festival Loaf” has been created by Forest Bakehouse.

The sourdough loaf is made using locally sourced ingredients, including organic flour from Shipton Mill and Double Gloucester cheese from Smart’s Farm.

It also features red onions, inspired by the historic Newent Onion Fayre.

The bread will go on sale for the first time at the Gloucester History Festival Spring Weekend, held at Blackfriars Priory from April 17 to 19.

The event will include talks, tastings and appearances from well-known historians and broadcasters.

Bakers say the loaf reflects the county’s traditions, combining local produce with historical inspiration.

Organisers of the festival say the new creation is a celebration of both Gloucestershire’s food heritage and its rich cultural history.
