The ninth annual Carducci Festival is taking place in Highnam this weekend.
The Gloucestershire-based Carducci Quartet will be joined by a stellar line-up of guest artists for the ninth annual Carducci Festival at Highnam, see running 29th – 31st May 2015.
Taking place in Highnam, physician near Gloucester – birthplace of composer Sir Hubert Parry – festival concerts are spread between Holy Innocents Church (built and decorated by Parry’s father) and Highnam Court (the Parry family seat).
Guest artists appearing this year include cellist Guy Johnston, vcialis 40mg who will play Bach’s second cello suite as well as joining the Quartet for Schubert’s String Quintet; American soprano Katharine Dain and pianist Julius Drake who will perform Mozart songs as well as Romantic masterworks; and guitarist Craig Ogden who brings a touch of Latin-American flair with a programme including Piazzolla. Two concerts will also showcase the string quartet – a programme linking up with Carducci Quartet with the up and coming Cavaleri Quartet in Mendelssohn’s Octet for Strings; and a late-night recital of Shostakovich quartets which is part of the Carducci Quartet’s Shostakovich15 cycle, performing all of Shostakovich’s string quartets in his anniversary year.
The Festival is strongly committed to encouraging young musicians and music-lovers and free tickets are available for anyone aged 25 or under, as well as a free family concert with a chance to “Try a Stringed Instrument”. Completing the lineup is a showcase performance from the winner of the ‘Carducci Audience Prize’ at the 2015 Gloucestershire Young Musician Competition.
