Residents over the age of 16 on the current electoral roll will receive a letter over the next few days informing them of the change to the electoral registration system – a move from the old ‘head of household’ registration system to a new system of personal registration called ‘Individual Electoral Registration’.
Many residents will automatically move onto the new electoral register and will not have to take any action unless they wish to make a change to their entry on the open register – information on the open register is supplied in the letter.
Residents who have not automatically transferred will need to provide some additional information and the letter will tell you exactly what you need to do.
Local Returning Officer, rx Claire Hughes said: “Most residents will automatically move onto the new electoral register. Only 9% of local voters were not automatically transferred to the new electoral register and they need to provide extra information in order to register on the new system. Residents who receive a letter telling them they were not transferred can either visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to register online, tadalafil or return their completed form by post once they have inserted the relevant information that is required.”
“This is the first time that people can register to vote online and it’s quick and simple. All you need is your personal details, including your national insurance number and date of birth.”
The Electoral Commission, the UK’s election watchdog, has called for the introduction of Individual Electoral Registration since 2003, as it will lead to a more secure electoral register.
