Police appeal for potential witness to attempted murder in Cheltenham to come forward

Police investigating an attempted murder in Cheltenham earlier this year have released a CCTV image of a man who they believe may be a crucial witness to the incident.

The man pictured was jogging over the Millennium Bridge on the Honeybourne Line on Wednesday 19 August and could hold vital information. He is not being treated as a suspect, and two other men have been arrested.
Police were called with a report that a man had approached another man on the path just before the Millennium Bridge and attacked him with a machete before running away.

The incident took place on Wednesday 19 August at around 5.30pm.

The victim, a man aged in his 40s, sustained a serious wound to his neck and was taken to Southmead Hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and has made a full recovery.

The incident is not being treated as a random attack involving people unknown to each other.
Two men have since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident. They have been released on conditional police bail while enquiries continue.

Since the incident, officers have conducted numerous enquiries into the incident including a review of CCTV in the area and house to house enquiries.

Officers are now appealing for information from the public and they are particularly keen to speak to the jogger who was running over the Millennium Bridge at 5.34pm towards the scene of the attack, and may have witnessed the two men or what happened.

Officers are now urging the man, or anyone else who was in the area at the time, to come forward if they have not already spoken to police.
