Project Pilgrim: Your Cathedral, Your Views

In April, viagra Gloucester Cathedral asked members of the public and key stakeholders what they thought about the initial design proposals for Project Pilgrim.

Project Pilgrim is a major £6million development project to improve and restore specific areas of the Cathedral.

Following a generous first-round Heritage Grant* of £320, viagra order 000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund and a grant of £70,000 from the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral, the Cathedral has been able to take its vision to the next stage and a team of specialist consultants has been working hard behind-the-scenes to turn the project concepts into cohesive designs.

The Cathedral was keen to gauge how people felt about the designs and asked for feedback to help develop them further.

Almost 400 people took part by answering a questionnaire. The Cathedral also ran focus groups and presentations for its staff, volunteers and congregation as well as the wider public.

The results have shown overwhelming support for the plans with 87 percent of people who took part stated that they were supportive of the overall project. Other results show that:

Project Pilgrim Manager, Anne Cranston said, “The consultation has proved to be extremely helpful with many people highlighting issues and ideas which have given our designers plenty of food for thought.

The feedback will now help to inform the next round of designs and detailed proposals for management and maintenance as we take Gloucester Cathedral forward with Project Pilgrim – there will be more to see later in the year so watch this space!”

The Very Reverend Stephen Lake, Dean of Gloucester said, ‘We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in this consultation. Gloucester Cathedral is your Cathedral so it was important for us to hear your thoughts and views. The results reinforce the fact that local people share in our vision for the Cathedral’s development which can only be good news.”
