The Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL) Board has provided approval to the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for the commencement of the 2015/16 English domestic premiership from the quarter-final stages of Rugby World Cup 2015.
The provision of dispensation replicates the successful approach taken for France 2007 and comes after the Board determined that the arrangement would benefit the growth of Rugby as a whole at a time when the sport will receive unprecedented profile, buy interest and engagement.
The Board was also satisfied that all parties would ensure that there would be no negative impact on England 2015 from an operational, doctor ticket sales and player release perspective and that there would be harmonious scheduling during the tournament.
Rugby World Cup Limited Chairman Bernard Lapasset said: “Rugby World Cup Limited has approved the commencement of the 2015/16 English Premiership season at the quarter-final stage of Rugby World Cup 2015 after being fully satisfied of key scheduling and player release considerations by the RFU.”
“Rugby World Cup is about celebrating Rugby and with all parties committed to ensuring that England 2015 has Rugby and fans at heart, story this announcement is good for international and domestic Rugby and will further Rugby World Cup 2015 as a celebration for all Rugby fans.”
