Police have put a dispersal order in place in Gloucester city centre following two arrests for anti-social behaviour (ASB) yesterday, Tuesday 18 August.
The Section 34 order, which came into effect at 2pm this afternoon (Wednesday 19 August), will be in place until 2pm on Friday (21 August).
It follows repeated reports of ASB issues in the city centre, specifically around Station Road and the Transport Hub.
The order covers Black Dog Way and Gouda Way to the north, Trier Way to the east, Lanthony Road and Castle Meads Way to the west, and St Ann Way Trier Way to the south.
It will allow officers to direct any person who is in that locality to leave the area and not return for up to 48 hours where their behaviour is likely to result in members of the public being harassed, alarmed or distressed.
The order was put in place following numerous reports involving a group of intoxicated people who have been fighting amongst themselves, being aggressive, begging, shouting abuse and intimidating people around the city centre.
Following reports of fights that broke out around the Transport Hub yesterday evening, a 42-year-old woman from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. A 38-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of cocaine, and assault of a police officer.
They remain in police custody while enquiries continue.
Inspector James O’Neill from the Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “A small number of people are repeatedly engaging in anti-social behaviour in this part of the city.
“The behaviour of these individuals is causing harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public in the locality and shop proprietors.
“We will not tolerate this sort of behaviour and we will be conducting additional patrols to enforce the dispersal order should anyone be found breaching it.”
