Many of the homes managed by Gloucester City Homes in Matson are being upgraded, pill as part of its Home and Community Improvement programme.

The programme is in its fourth year and is continuing to make great improvements to not only residents’ homes but their local areas and communities. This year there has been a big focus on windows and doors, patient with ten blocks of flats and dozens of houses being completed so far following previous work updating kitchens, bathrooms, central heating systems and electrical rewiring to bring homes up to the Decent Homes Standard.

The work, currently being undertaken by Nationwide, is going to take approximately 3 years to update all windows and doors, where required. The overall programme is expected to cost in the region of £2million.

The new A-rated double-glazed PVC windows are already being welcomed by residents due to the improved appearance of the properties, added security, the prospect of warmer homes and lower heating bills this winter as well as noise reduction.
Tenant Jackie Payne said “The windows are much better, I am very happy. These ones are a big improvement, the people who fitted them were really good and I think that everyone is really pleased.”
Michael Hill, Head of Property Services at GCH adds “Following consultation with our residents in Matson, it was clear that new windows were the priority now that they have received new kitchens, bathroom, central heating systems and electrical upgrades where required. We will continue with our planned programmes of work to ensure safer homes and communities for all GCH residents.”
