Local residents are being asked what they think of playing pitches as part of a new playing pitch strategy that looks at all of Gloucester’s current outdoor sports facilities, cure as well as opportunities for new ones.
From Thursday 24th September, stomach local residents will be asked to comment on the strategy, which sets out how accessible, sustainable and high quality outdoor sports facilities could be provided across the city, now and in the future.
The aim is to encourage more people to take part in physical activity for their general health and wellbeing by having enough good quality pitches in Gloucester.
The strategy will be considered when new developments are planned. It will help protect existing playing fields, as well as make sure that Gloucester has the right type and number of new pitches.
Another benefit of the strategy will be to help ensure that investment is directed where it’s needed most, and that the quality and accessibility of the pitches is monitored, along with how well they are used.
Cllr Colin Organ, Cabinet member for housing and planning said, “We’d like Gloucester to be an active, healthy and safe city for all to enjoy. We want families and friends to use their local playing fields for their fun, sport, games and exercise.
“Some work still needs to be done to improve some of the older fields and pitches so we’ve carried out a review of what’s available in the city at the moment.
“We’re keen to start seeing the improvements as soon as possible so please complete or survey by 6th November. Your comments will help us to make sure the right amount, and the right types, of playing pitches are available for the community’s needs now and in the future.”
The survey will be available online at www.gloucester.gov.uk and paper copies will be available from the city council offices, the Guildhall, the tourist information centre and libraries in Gloucester, Hucclecote, Longlevens, Matson, Quedgeley and Tuffley.
The closing date for feedback is Friday 6th November 2015.
