There are concerns overnight roadworks in Cheltenham will cause disruption on a major A road over the best part of two weeks in the new year.
Excavations are due to take place on the A40 Gloucester Road near Arle Court Roundabout to install two high voltage cables to connect Swanbrook bus depot’s bus chargers at the top of Pheasant Lane Junction.
Electrical vehicle chargepoint installer Envevo has written to residents in the spa town about the works which are scheduled to begin on January 8 and last until the 21 of the same month.
There will be a lane closure between 7pm and 7am and delays are likely to occur, according to Gloucestershire County Council’s roadworks map.
There is concern over the disruption this will create on a very busy road.
Simon Wheeler, who is a Cheltenham Borough Councillor, is among those concerned.
“I fully accept that this essential work needs to be carried out to provide power to Swanbrook however I feel it will create a great deal of disruption to this very busy road.
“Although the works are being carried out over night, I know at both 7am and 7pm this road carries a lot of traffic.
“And there may be a need to reduce the hour to later at night and earlier in the morning or find an alternative way of working.”
Envevo said in a letter to residents that they will make every effort to minimise disruption for the duration of the works.
The company has been approached for comment.
