A woman from the Forest of Dean has today been sentenced to seven and a half years imprisonment for the manslaughter of a man in his own home in Broadwell in October last year.
Amanda Howard, try 46 and of Edinburgh Place, unhealthy Broadwell, price kicked and punched 66-year-old Gerald Nott at his house in Queensway, causing him fatal head injuries.
Howard was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter following a trial at Bristol Crown Court earlier this month.
Prior to handing down the sentence His Honour Judge Ford commented that he believed Amanda Howard had “punched him (Nott), kicked him” and “probably stamped on him”.
He commented that other persons present had been “too frightened” of Howard to intervene and that Howard’s behaviour was “appalling, but not uncharacteristic”. He said she demonstrated “no remorse at all” – seeking to “blame others for Mr Nott’s death”.
In passing sentence His Honour Judge Ford said that he had to “balance the loss of life against the criminality and culpability in this case”.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Ian Ginn said: This investigation presented a number of challenges for the team, but the right result has been achieved and I am happy with the sentence.
“I hope that, with the conclusion of this case at court, the family are now able to properly grieve for Mr Nott in the knowledge that the person responsible for his death has been dealt with appropriately through the criminal justice system.”
