Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were left with serious injuries following an incident in the Forest of Dean.
Officers were called to reports of an altercation between two men, which involved weapons, on Queensway in Coleford shortly before 1am this morning (Monday 29 July).
Both men sustained serious injuries and were flown by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. One of the men, aged in his 40s, remains in a critical condition.
A man in his 50s and from Coleford has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody at this time.
A scene guard is currently in place while enquiries continue.
Officers are in the early stages of an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information or who has CCTV footage which they believe to be relevant to come forward.
Detective Inspector Faye Bennett said: “I would like to ask anyone who has information, no matter how big or small, to please report this to us as it will help the ongoing investigation.
“This could be about what happened or something which took place earlier in the day and may have led up to the altercation between the two men.”
