Highways safety barriers left after a tree was chopped down in Cheltenham have been there so long they have been captured on Google Street View.
Barriers were put around a tree stump in Tamar Road, Cheltenham, more than a year ago.
And Councillor Colin Hay (LD, All Saints), who represents the area at Gloucestershire County Council, has been calling on the authority to have them removed.
“A tree had to come down,” he told the budget meeting at Shire Hall on February 19.
“So it was cut down.Then it had the red and white plastic barriers.
“I rang my highways local manager again about this a year later with the barriers flat and rubbish there.
“He couldn’t remember it. So he went to see exactly where I was talking about and he said ‘oh my God, it’s on Google Earth.
“These red barriers had been there so long. A year.
“How long do these things have to wait to be fixed?”
Cllr Hay also asked council chiefs during the meeting if they would fine Ringway for leaving signs “abandoned all over the place”.
Council leader Stephen Davies (C, Hardwicke and Severn) said it may be counterproductive to cost ourselves extra money.
“I will look into how we monitor that and action that.
“I have to say, I wonder why this is so difficult, because we all know where there is work done in our area.
“I emailed the highways manager to confirm whether something should be moved or not moved and resolved.”
