Andrew Scott Designer Jewellery has announced the imminent closure of its store in Cheltenham.
The store will trade for the final time on Saturday with jewellery discounted by 50% including diamond rings, precious stone pieces, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings.
Jeweller Andrew Scott established his business 37 years ago from humble beginnings on a family dressing room table. After three years learning jewellery design and manufacture techniques and successfully creating a clientele, Andrew decided it was time to branch out.
In 1990 a local shop became available and Andrew was awarded a Prince’s Trust loan to set-up his dream business. Explained Andrew, “That’s how I started in my first store. It was April 1990, just as the recession hit.
“It is notoriously difficult to get a foothold in the jewellery industry, it’s a very traditional business. But what I was doing differently, modern pieces, bespoke and individually made, captured the imagination of my clients.”
The new store was a success, and Andrew’s keen eye for contemporary jewellery design resonated with his customers. He expanded and began to stock pieces by other European designers, including jewellery, art and bespoke crafts. The business went from strength to strength.
1999 saw Andrew launch his flagship jewellers on the Promenade in Cheltenham, where the business remains to the present day. The reputation of Andrew Scott Designer Jewellery flourished and the business scooped the accolade ‘Best Independent Jewellers’ and ‘Best Store Team’ in the UK Jewellery Awards 2000.
After a hugely successful career, Andrew still exudes a deep passion for jewellery design and cherishes the opportunities which have been afforded to him and his wife and business partner Vicky.
Said Andrew: “I have a huge sense of pride in what we have achieved. I have always enjoyed sharing jewellery with people, creating something that can’t be found anywhere else. The process of bespoke jewellery making, from the consultation and family history to the creation of the pieces. It’s a combination of technical knowledge, style and unique perspective. It’s a truly organic process.”
So it is with a deep sense of sadness that Andrew and Vicky have taken the difficult decision to close their much-loved store. Explains Andrew, “The end of our lease has come about and after so many successful years, it feels like a good time to bow out and close the store.
“I think customers will be shocked, as the place really does add something unique to the town. We have a lot of very loyal clients and I have been incredibly grateful for their patronage over many years.
“Committing to close the store has been an extremely hard decision. To say thank you and goodbye in glittering style, we are offering customers old and new a final opportunity to come along and purchase one of our exquisite pieces.”
