Cheltenham Borough Council wants to remind residents that the refuse and recycling collection schedule will change slightly over the Christmas period.
There will be no collections on Christmas Day, try Boxing Day, sickness bank holiday Monday (28December) and New Year’s Day, therefore some residents will find their collections being made on Saturdays to allow the crews to catch-up. Collections will return to normal from Monday 18 January 2016.
Scott Williams, strategic client officer for the Joint Waste Team, said: “Collections will be different for Cheltenham residents from Christmas Day until 18 January. Most are running a day or two later, but due to how the bank holidays fall some collection days are four days later. Some residents may find their collections being made on a Saturday.
“We realise that the amount of non-recyclable waste produced also increases at this busy time of year and we will be allowing a ‘side waste amnesty’ for every household on their first collection after Christmas Day (Tuesday 29 December until Saturday 9 January). This will allow residents to leave out additional non-recyclable waste in bin liners next to their green wheeled refuse bin which will be collected on this revised collection day.
“If residents have more recycling than normal, they can leave out their recycling in an alternative plastic box of a similar size to the council issue green boxes (cardboard boxes or plastic bags/sacks are not suitable).
“Residents are advised to present their refuse bin, recycling box, food waste caddy and garden waste bin (if subscribed) by 7am on their revised collection day until the crews get back to normal.”
