The new Cotswolds Sustainable Travel Map makes car-free travel easy, linking buses, trains and walking routes across Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.
A new map has been launched to make car-free travel across the Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire Cotswolds easier for everyone. Designed by Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire Community Rail Partnership (GOCRP), the map highlights six main bus routes connecting towns, villages, and train stations across the Cotswolds.
The Cotswolds Travel Map has been designed with simplicity in mind, so whether you’re a first-time visitor or a local planning a day out, you can pick it up and use it straight away. It includes key routes to help walkers, tourists, and local residents plan journeys combining buses, trains, and footpaths, including the Cotswold Way, Gloucestershire Way, and Oxfordshire Way.
Funded by Community Rail Network and the Department for Transport through the Community Rail Development Fund, the project responds directly to community feedback calling for clearer, simpler ways to navigate the region sustainably.
The map also highlights The Robin, a bookable bus service operating in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. The Robin enables easier connections in rural areas and links these places to main fixed bus routes and rail stations. The Robin bus users can book journeys up to two weeks in advance, with fares capped at the national bus price and concessionary travel available.
“People asked for a simple way to get around the Cotswolds without a car,” said Luke Goddard, Youth Engagement & Insight Lead at GCRP, and designer of the map. “We wanted to make the options simple and easy to use, giving everyone clear information on how to explore the Cotswolds by public transport.”
By providing integrated bus and rail options, the map encourages car-free travel across the region, with sustainability being a natural outcome of using public transport over individual car use.
