Gloucester City Council’s overview and scrutiny committee has commissioned a study into looking at the employment and skills opportunities for young people in the city.

The overview and scrutiny task and finish group on employment and skills will look at the options available to young people in Gloucester, ailment and identify any potential barriers to them achieving their potential.

Throughout the study, stomach the group will speak with local employers, training providers, employment and skills professionals as well as representatives from small businesses.

By comparing Gloucester with other districts in the county, the group hope to find out where local employers are experiencing gaps in their work force and fit training and education around this.

The work is being carried out by three city councillors, Cllr Laura Pearsall (Con, Abbey), Cllr Neil Hampson (Lab, Moreland) and the group’s chairman, Cllr Philip McLellan (Lib, Barnwood).

Cllr McLellan said; “Young people in Gloucester have a massive part to play in helping this city achieve its potential, and this task group is aiming to help them do that.

“Working alongside local businesses and training providers, we can find out where there are gaps in their workforces and try to meet those needs with trainees in the city.

“This will hopefully lead to new and exciting opportunities for our city’s young people.”

The task group plan to publish their findings at the end of February 2016.
