Cotswold District Council has elected a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Councillor Lynden Stowe has been re-elected as Leader. Chairmen have been appointed to lead on three committees. Changes to Cabinet are still to be considered.
The Council met on 19 May and appointed Councillor Mark Annett as its new Chairman for the Municipal Year 2015-16, advice replacing the outgoing Chairman Councillor Clive Bennett. Cllr Annett was previously the Vice-Chairman and that role will now be filled by Cllr Julian Beale.
Cllr Lynden Stowe and Cllr Nick Parsons were re-elected as Leader and Deputy Leader respectively. Final decisions on the precise responsibilities of the Cabinet they will lead are still pending.
Three Committee Chairmen (and one Vice-Chairman) were appointed as follows:
Planning and Licensing Committee
– Cllr Robin Hughes (Chairman)
– Cllr Stephen Hirst (Vice-Chairman)
Overview and Scrutiny Committee
– Cllr Jim Parsons(Chairman)
Audit Committee
– Cllr Barry Dare
Councillor Stowe commented:
“I believe that our new Council Chairman and Vice Chairman will be well suited to their new roles, and I also have great confidence in the three Committee Chairmen – and the one Vice Chairman. The Cabinet will continue to deliver efficiencies and keep costs down for local taxpayers.
“I would also like to thank all the councillors from the previous administration who are no longer serving this time around, and I wish them all the best of luck in the future. In particular, I must highlight the contribution of Cllr Bennett who served as the Council Chairman with distinction and had also previously proved his worth as an able Chairman of the Licensing Committee and Cabinet Member. “
