Stroud District Council is calling on apprentice hopefuls to come and meet them.

On the morning of Tuesday 25th August between 10am and midday the council is holding a drop-in event for anyone who thinks they have what it takes to work in the following areas:

  • customer services
  • business administration
  • plumbing and heating

Up to five positions are on offer, and including two which involve an attachment to other companies – Do Care and First Base. This allows the apprentices to experience a variety of work environments.

They will also have the opportunity to train on the job and study for qualifications via day release at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and “earn while they learn” with a salary of around £10,000 a year.

Fiona Hammond, the learning and development officer at the council said: “Being an apprentice is an important first step for many people, giving them the skills, confidence and qualifications they need for their future careers. Apprentices themselves can make a valuable contribution to a business and this scheme is an innovative way to help young people experience the wider world of work.”

Those attending will meet existing staff from each of the service areas taking on the apprentices and find out about career opportunities at Stroud District Council. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions and it will also be an opportunity to meet some of the current apprentices at the council.
