Concerns have been raised about the amount of rubbish including underpants which blight a Gloucester supermarket car park.

Eric Torrington, a dedicated litter picker in Gloucestershire, has expressed his shock at the appalling amount of litter surrounding the Asda store.

The 62-year-old has previously cleared litter from the vicinity of the supermarket on Bruton Way on three separate occasions.

Mr Torrington has blasted the supermarket’s CEO Roger Burnley for “failing in your statutory duty to keep your premises free of litter”.

Broken glass, railings and toppled trolleys are piled high in one part of the car park.

“The covered carpark area is disgusting and almost a site of dereliction” said Eric.

In a statement, ASDA said: “We have regular litter picks in place and have measures in place to ensure that rubbish does not collect near our store. We would ask all customers and residents to help us in keeping the area tidy and be considerate by placing litter in the bin.”
