Police in Stroud are appealing for information and urging shoppers to be vigilant after a distraction theft at a supermarket.

A woman in her 60s was shopping at Waitrose at around 4pm yesterday (Tuesday 19 April) when she was approached by a man in the car park.

He is described as white, drug six foot, of a stocky build, with short dark hair with an Eastern European accent. He was wearing a white shirt and brown coloured trousers.

The man asked if she had change for a £2 coin. As she looked in her purse he pointed to some change inside and stole her credit card without her noticing. The card was cancelled shortly afterwards with no money being stolen.

Shoppers are urged to report any suspicious activity, to be aware of who’s around them when using chip and pin machines and to keep belongings close to them.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 93 of Wednesday 20 April.
