Forest of Dean District Council has supported the launch of a new twice weekly Forest Community Café based at the Angel Hotel in the centre of Coleford.
The idea for the Café came from local community volunteers who wanted to create an area where groups and individuals can come together and meet new people, ampoule try activities or enjoy a friendly chat and a cup of tea.
The Café has been made possible through the support of local businesses. The Angel Hotel has donated the use of their annex room at the back of their building free of charge and Coleford Computers has donated a laser printer. Barnwood Trust has also supported the project with a Small Sparks grant, see which will provide a tea urn and a bingo machine for the Cafe.
Eve Ford, recipe Secretary of the Forest Community Café said: “We are extremely grateful to the Barnwood Trust for their funding and to the Angel Hotel for the donation of their room, which has enabled us to get the Café off the ground. The District Council’s Community Engagement Team has been supportive in helping us to develop the idea and linking us up with other organisations and groups who can benefit from the café.
The Café will be an area where customers can sit, relax and enjoy time out from their busy schedules in a friendly environment.
Set in the heart of Coleford the Café is accessible for people with disabilities and is suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs. It also has the benefit of a secluded outdoor courtyard, which customers can enjoy during nice weather.
All profits from the Café will go towards community initiatives and activities and a programme of events is currently being developed.
We hope residents will come along on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 12.30pm and support us in making the Café a success.”
Cllr Terry Hale, Cabinet Member for the Community said: “The Council is pleased to have played a part in supporting the launch of the new Forest Community Café and we wish them every success for the future.”
