Police are appealing for information after a car collided with a cow on Minchinhampton Common and drove away without stopping.
The incident happened at around 7.20pm on Wednesday evening (1 October) near Amberley. The animal died at the scene from its injuries.
Officers say the driver failed to stop to check on the cow’s welfare, despite being legally required to do so under the Road Traffic Act 1988, which covers collisions involving dogs, horses, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, donkeys and mules.
Witnesses have described the vehicle as purple or red in colour, and enquiries are under way to trace the driver.
Police are urging the individual involved to come forward and provide an account of what happened. They are also appealing to anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage to get in touch.
Information can be submitted via Gloucestershire Police’s online form, quoting incident 415 of 3 October.
